If there had to be one word to describe myself, it would have to be multi-passionate (hyphenated counts as one word, I checked!).
I'm a qualified Digital Accessibility Specialist, self-taught artist, writer and musician with passions in many other areas such as nature, psychology, and craftwork. However, broadly speaking, my interests mainly fall under the umbrella of design. I'm not afraid to step out of my prescribed job role. I welcome it even, as I know how broad my capabilities are and seek to explore myself and the world through different types of work and the new experiences these offer.
Other key words for me include curious and analytical; I work with a hands-on approach prefaced by deep thought. My strong cognitive and dexterous capabilities enable me to solve practical problems through mindful action and efficient processes while focusing on the user, embedding accessibility and usability, fostering innovation, and picking up on mistakes or potential process improvements. At my core I'm inspired by tough problems and design together with the collaborative exploration of data or ideas, viewing problems through multiple perspectives to form holistic solutions. Being a big, big perfectionist, I hold myself to very high standards and am prone to putting myself through the wringer to do my best for myself and my team.
Art and writing were my earliest passions, fed by my great natural curiosity and vast imagination, which has led me to develop a highly versatile skill set from digital to traditional. My personal approach to ideating is visual and almost wholly intuitive: when I have an idea, it manifests as a 3D image. I prefer to go straight into making a prototype instead of sketching out initial wireframes or design details first; this process although appearing somewhat backwards, is more time efficient for me as it's how my brain naturally works. I learn best by doing.
Since I feel equally strong pulls in multiple disciplines, sectors and directions, I'm not overly picky about exactly what specific work I do- however all I ask is that it is done in an inclusive and transparent workplace. As an autistic person, this is essential to ensure I can flourish fully.
I am comfortable working on multiple ongoing projects and approach briefs in detail, being able to multitask with ease while leveraging the latest technology and digital tools for optimal efficiency. Being conscientious and hard-working, I take pride in my work ethic and attitude, remaining engaging and receptive when receiving feedback or providing articulate and informed guidance, whether it’s verbal or written. Although I am naturally an independent worker, I’m just as high performing and dedicated in a team. As a quick, focused learner with high standards for myself and my work, I diligently undertake any training and upskilling opportunities available, and my ravenous appetite for knowledge means I stay updated with ease.
